Pedro’s bio
A journey through Brazilian rhythms, jazz, fingerstyle guitar, composition and contemporary music production

About me
1985–2002: Early Life and Musical Foundations
Pedro grew up immersed in a wide variety of music, drawing inspiration from his family. His parents listened to traditional Brazilian music and worldwide musicians, including Alcione, Maria Bethânia, Raul Seixas, Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Luciano Pavarotti, and The Beatles, while his brothers enjoyed music ranging from The Doors, New Order, Carmina Burana, Sublime, to Bob Marley. At age 13, Pedro began playing nylon-string guitar, performing hymns at his school, CONSA (Sister Franciscana Culture), while also developing a taste for rock, learning his first riffs and solos on electric guitar from bands such as Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Ramones, and The Offspring. He also learned and played the drums.
At age 15, Pedro enrolled in the local music conservatory, CMASB (Conservatório de Música Ars et Scientia do Brasil), where he studied theory, solfeggio, and aural training under the guidance of renowned USP professor Roberval Falleiros. During this time, he collaborated on the composition Mistérios do Espelho Côncavo with his school band. In 2001, 26 bands entered the school music festival, and Pedro’s band qualified in first place to be among the 12 selected to perform. On the day of the performances, the band took first place again. 2003–2007: Guitar Studies and Early Performance
At age 18, Pedro embarked on formal guitar studies at IG&T São Paulo, Brazil, a school directed by guitarist Wander Taffo, who brought to Brazil an educational model inspired by the renowned American GIT (L.A.), an institution attended by modern guitarists such as Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale, as well as contemporary guitarist Mateus Asato. Pedro studied at IG&T for three years under Christian McCarthy, whose teaching strongly influenced his approach to rock, blues, and fusion, with Stevie Ray Vaughan becoming a major and lasting reference in his playing.
During this period, Pedro was actively performing in local bands. Most notably, he played with Fernando Nazath in the funk/rock band Proceder Opinião, performing original compositions, and with the instrumental funk/jazz group Sauno Flex Sextet, whose repertoire included music by Eumir Deodato, Billy Cobham, and Average White Band, among others.
Alongside performance and formal studies, Pedro developed a strong interest in luthiery and instrument maintenance, studying with Benedetti and Henry Ho, a touring guitar technician who has worked with artists such as Lenny Kravitz and Eric Clapton. He also took harmonica lessons with Sérgio Duarte, a respected Brazilian bluesman who lived in Chicago for nearly ten years, deeply immersed in the blues tradition. Pedro greatly admired Sérgio Duarte’s work, particularly his collaborations with Brazilian guitarist Faiska, a player strongly influenced by Jeff Beck, whose musical language further inspired Pedro’s growing interest in blues expression.
2008–2012: Brazilian Roots and Musical Identity
In 2008, Pedro began transitioning into a new phase of his musical journey. He enrolled at Souza Lima Conservatory for piano studies and later pursued a music teaching degree at Faculdade Paulista de Artes (FPA). During this period, Pedro was invited to join the band Vitamina Brazil, led by bassist and composer João Hsia, with Bira Magalhães on lead vocals. The band’s purpose was to fuse a wide range of musical influences—especially Brazilian repertoire—to develop a unique style within the realm of samba-rock, a genre that was gaining strong momentum in São Paulo and was officially recognised as a contemporary musical genre in 2012.
Samba-rock is essentially a fusion of samba, electric guitars, and brass sections commonly found in jazz and funk, creating highly rhythmic and dance-oriented music. One of the most notable bands associated with the style is Clube do Balanço. Through Vitamina Brasil, Pedro deepened his understanding of Brazilian grooves, ensemble playing, and stylistic fusion.
During this period, Pedro was introduced by João Hsia to multi-instrumentalist and educator Luizão Cavalcanti, with whom he immediately began private studies. Luizão’s unique approach to music profoundly transformed Pedro’s mindset, influencing all areas of his musical life—performance, composition, and especially education. While traditional music education often relies heavily on books and visual learning, Luizão emphasised music as an aural art form, encouraging the development of internal hearing through singing rhythms, harmonies, and melodies. This philosophy reinforced the idea that music should flow from the inside out, rather than being processed visually first—an approach that became a cornerstone of Pedro’s artistic and educational identity.
2013–2019: From Busking to Jazz: The Dublin Chapter
In 2013, Pedro moved to Ireland and began specializing in fingerstyle solo guitar. Discovering that busking was a common and culturally embraced practice in Dublin, he started arranging and performing his own fingerstyle pieces in areas such as Dún Laoghaire and Blackrock, where he lived for around eight years.
Pedro also pursued formal studies in Jazz, enrolling in the renowned Newpark Centre, which follows the Berklee curriculum system. The program later transferred to Dublin City University (DCU), where Pedro graduated with honours in 2019, further enriching his improvisation, composition, and ensemble skills.
During this period, Pedro performed extensively, both as a solo guitarist and in duos, trios, and quartets. Venues included Sandymount Hotel, Haddington House, Blackrock Market, JJ’s Smyth, Arthur’s Bar, and IMMA, showcasing a variety of formats and styles.
In parallel, he also began teaching private students, sharing his experience and developing his approach to tailored music education, and gained employment at Marino College Further Education, where he taught guitar and ukulele to several adult groups for one year, until the pandemic hit.
2020–2024: Music Technology, Advanced Studies, and Industry Experience
When the pandemic hit in 2020, Pedro saw an opportunity to dive into music technology. He completed a Sound Design course at Pulse College and a Music Composition course at Griffith College, where he was trained to use Pro Tools and Logic Pro, learning to compose vertical music for games based on the concepts of Winifred Phillips, as well as music for media using methods taught by lecturer Rory Pierce.
During this time, Pedro also continued to develop his guitar and composition skills through online mentorships. He studied with guitarist Ulisses Rocha, focusing on advanced classical and Brazilian guitar pieces for nylon guitar, including Rocha’s well-known arrangement of “Ponteio” by Edu Lobo, as well as works by Villa-Lobos and other classical repertoire. On electric guitar, he followed the George Benson method, created by Peter Farrel, who studied privately with Benson for over 15 years. Pedro participated in Farrel’s weekly lessons for six months, aligning perfectly with his personal goals.
Pedro also pursued further composition studies with renowned Brazilian composer Francis Himes, who shared insights into his creative process.
In parallel, he gained three years of industry experience working in music tech at the company HYPH, whose CEO was Andreas Carlsson, a producer of hits for Katy Perry, Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Flo Rida, and Celine Dion. During his time at HYPH, Pedro worked under Killian Magee, team leader of the music department, who has composed music for HBO, NBC, ESPN, BBC, and RTÉ. Pedro engaged in a variety of music tasks, including musicology research across over 200 subgenres, gaining insights into music production and the music business. As part of his role at HYPH, he was also invited to an international company conference in New York, attended by investors, the development team, music producers, CEOs, CFOs, and other key industry professionals.
2025–Present: Composing My Own Path
Since January 2025, Pedro has been dedicating himself full-time to exploring his own compositions and contemporary music production. During this period, he has been composing and producing music with a contemporary approach across three personal projects, resulting in around 20 releases. In addition, he has composed and produced approximately 200 releases of functional and mood music in a variety of styles for digital streaming platforms. Pedro is also working as a music producer for clients, having produced over 500 stems in the past year.
As a performer, Pedro shares his music through solo appearances for private functions, wedding receptions, and similar events.
As an educator, he offers tailored private tuition, either at the student’s home in the Dunboyne area or online, focusing on the student’s area of interest.
