Teaching experience

Teaching music has always been a natural part of my musical journey. From an early stage, I learned through sharing ideas with other musicians, an approach that encouraged faster progress and a deeper understanding of music. This experience shaped how I teach today, especially when working with beginners.
As my academic training progressed, I began teaching private students in Brazil and later taught music in a secondary school for one year as part of my teaching training. These early experiences helped me develop a flexible and student-focused teaching style.
Since moving to Ireland in 2013, I have taught hundreds of students over the past 12 years, working with both children and adults across a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, bass, drums, and ukulele. I have taught in a variety of educational settings, from private lessons to formal institutions.
I have held formal teaching positions at Marino College of Further Education, where I taught guitar and ukulele to adult learners, and worked with Moved by Music, teaching both children and adults in their homes throughout South Dublin. I have also taught at Maynooth Music School and Castleknock Music School, working with children and adult students in both locations.
At Castleknock Music School, much of my work involved structured syllabus-based teaching, including RIAM guitar and theory grades as well as LCM guitar grades. This experience provided a strong foundation in formal music education and exam preparation.
My teaching approach is shaped by both my experience and my background in jazz education, where music is often approached as a language. In my experience, students benefit most when they begin by playing music first, building confidence, enjoyment, and familiarity with the instrument. Musical understanding develops naturally through repertoire and active playing.
Sight reading, music theory, and exam preparation are fully supported and introduced when requested or when appropriate, depending on the student’s goals and interests. Lessons are always tailored to ensure a balanced, enjoyable, and structured learning experience.
I am a registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland (Registration No. 345947), Garda vetted, and fully compliant with the Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers.
